Do-it-yourself – Parts Selection

Sometimes it's just a part that you want, and can fix it yourself. With that in mind, stop in to get what you need from the professionals.

Our knowledgeable and courteous counter staff is here to help you. With over years of plumbing research & experience between them, you can be assured we will do our best to get the part you need. You can help them by bringing a sample of the part you need or supplying the manufacturer's model number.

Our Research Department with its extensive library will help you to locate hard-to-find parts. Just leave the sample with us, or, if that is not possible then we'll need to know the manufacturer's name and model number, where its used, what type of fixture, and, on occasion, the year of manufacture. When we're searching for a part, please fill out the below special order form and return it to one of our locations.

BIO-CLEAN – Septic Tank

For maintaining your septic tank in between the two year pumping Mick Gage Plumbing and Heating recommends BIO-CLEAN. The bacteria in BIO-CLEAN is specially selected to digest a larger variety of waste, and metabolize it faster than naturally occurring bacteria or yeast additives in your septic tank. Oils, fats, grease and paper are very difficult for intestinal bacteria to handle. BIO-CLEAN is very effective on these materials. It increases solids destruction.

More complete digestion also means fewer undigested solids leaving the tank. These solids would otherwise form a black gooey accumulation in the leach field and prevent water absorption by the soil. Therefore, BIO-CLEAN extends the life of a leach field. A 2 pound container treats 1,000 gallon septic tank. We have BIO-CLEAN at each of our two locations.

Septic Tank Pumping

The only way to keep the septic tank functioning properly is to have the tank solids pumped out and properly disposed of. While the need for pumping depends on many factors such as usage, size, and wastes added, it is recommended by local health authorities and the Environmental Protection Agency that a system be pumped every two years.

PeroxyClear – hydrogen peroxide treatments

For home or residential uses of hydrogen peroxide, the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) recommends Peroxy Clear. PeroxyClear, certified by the DNR & USDA as a home or residential drinking water treatment, can provide you and your family with a clean water supply and a clean bill of health.

Benefits of PeroxyClear drinking water treatment:

  • Hydrogen peroxide is a natural substance found in the rain and snow. Even our own bodies manufacture it as the first line of defense for our immune system.
  • When PeroxyClear comes in contact with organic materials, it breaks down into only water and oxygen.
  • PeroxyClear cleans your water supply by reducing or eliminating high levels of Sulfur, Manganese (with filtration), Iron & Tannins (with filtration) & Iron Bacteria.
  • PeroxyClear does not cause a corroding effect on fittings and pumps like chlorine.
  • PeroxyClear can be accurately metered in the water line with a peristaltic (squeeze) pump.
  • PeroxyClear is acidic so the problems associated with chlorine, a natural alkaline do not exist.

Health Considerations for NOT using Chlorine

PeroxyClear is an economical and safe water treatment product. Dr. Joseph M. Price, MD demonstrated over 30 years ago the undeniable connection between the practice of chlorinating water supplies and the onset of arteriosclerosis which can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Chlorine in water also reacts with other substances present to form such carcinogens as chloroform and assorted organic halides or halogens. Although we are being critical of chlorine use, until now there hasn't been an effective alternative. PeroxyClear is also an economical and safe product to use as a water line cleaner.

PeroxyClearcan also be used for livestock and poultry applications where drinking water supplies are shared with workers.

Iron Filters

Mick Gage Plumbing & Heating has the right filter to remove chlorine, manganese, iron, odor and much more. Auto-backwashing filters refresh (backwash) themselves periodically to insure an optimum level of performance and to prevent "channelling". Whole-house auto-backwashing filters greatly enhance the performance of softener systems.

The science behind your clean water:

The filters use Manganese Greensand to filter your water. It is formulated from a glauconite greensand which is capable of removing iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide from water through oxidation and filtration. Manganese and soluble iron are oxidized and precipitated by contact with higher oxides of manganese on the greensand granules. The hydrogen sulfide is eliminated by oxidation to sulfate and an insoluble precipitate. Precipitates are then filtered and removed by backwashing. When the oxidizing capacity power of the Manganese Greensand bed is exhausted, the bed has to be regenerated with a weak potassium permanganate (KMnO4) solution which restores the oxidizing capacity of the bed. Two to four ounces of potassium permanganate, in solution, per cu/ft of Manganese Greensand is considered sufficient for normal regeneration. It is advisable to vigorously backwash and regenerate the bed when it is placed in service and before the oxidation capacity is totally exhausted.

  • Timer controlled auto-backwashing control valve
  • 1.5 cu/ft Manganese Greensand filter media
  • Washed gravel base
  • 1.05" basket riser
  • Top basket
  • 10x54 polyglass tank
  • 3/4" or 1" pipe connection
  • Free standard bypass valve
  • 6 gallon-per-minute flow rate
  • 4.5 gallon-per-minute backwash flow rate
  • Assembled pot-perm tank
  • Tank-to-valve tubing
  • 5-year manufacturer's warranty

Takagi – Tankless Water Heaters

Takagi tankless water heaters are designed to give you endless* hot water while helping you save money. Heating water only when you’re using it, Takagi models incur no standby energy losses, providing efficient heating while conserving energy. They also provide great peak-time flexibility for households with multiple members—no more worries about staggering showers or delaying laundry.

Takagi tankless water heaters take up much less space than conventional tank-type water heaters or boilers, utilizing a wall mount design that allows for additional storage and flexibility. With durable, commercial-grade parts, Takagi water heaters are built to deliver reliable performance year after year.

*When sized appropriately for your home’s needs.

There are many features that make this unit stand out from the rest:

Compact Size: Only 13.8 inches wide, the T-K3 can be recessed between wall studs for even more space savings! A special recess box is available for outdoor installations.
Lower Activating Flow Rate: The T-K3 activates at only 0.5 GPM, which allows the use of smaller water flows in bathroom sinks and showers. This reduces water waste and allows for stable temperatures.

Parallel Installation: Using Takagi's Easy Link technology, the T-K3 can be installed in parallel with up to three other units without the use of an additional control box, generating more flow while saving money, space and installation time. Four T-K3 unites will deliver a total of 21.6 GPM at 60 degrees F delta T; or 26 GPM at a 50 degree F delta T.

Direct-Vent Conversion: The T-K3 can be easily converted into a direct vent model for inside installations that need to import combustion air from outside.

Eight Temperature Settings: Instead of the usual four settings, the T-K3 offers eight separate temperatures, set by dip-switch: 104 degree F, 113 degree F, 122 degree F, 131 degree F, 140 degree F, 158 degree F, 176 degree F, and 185 degree F. This versatility reduces the need for a separate remote control. However, setting temperatures other than the eight presets requires the TM-RE10 temperature controller.

Longer vent runs: The T-K3 can have a vent pipe run up to 50 feet with five elbows, instead of the normal 35 with three elbows.

As you can see, the T-K3 incorporates all those "why-don't-you-have-this?" features into this one new product. Its larger flow capacity through parallel connections will meet the hot-water needs of most high-volume residential applications and many commercial projects, too. In short, the T-K3 fills the gap between the single residential heater and multiple commercial T-M1 units. Performance depends on the temperature of the ground water of course: At a delta T of 60 degrees F in warmer areas - for example, where the winter ground water is 60 degrees F and with the output set at 122 degrees F - the T-K3 will provide a 5.4 GPM, or 324 GPH. In colder areas where the input temperature may be 40 degrees F or less, expect a flow rate about 4.1 GPM, or 246 GPH.
